GMD Solutions was the engineering firm chosen by the French multinational Decathlon for the renovation of the air conditioning equipment in many of its establishments in Spain during the period 2018-2022.
The air conditioning equipment, most of the Rooftop type, is renewed annually. For this project, the units were replaced with new equipment with a considerable improvement in comfort conditions, air renewal, and energy efficiency.
During the last five years, more than 80 Rooftop units, 10 fan coils, and 3 chillers have been replaced in locations such as Zaragoza, Ferrol, Camas, Telde, Majadahonda, and Carcaixent. A total of 48 stores have carried out this renovation plan, either with the replacement of a single unit or several units.
Our team has been in charge of the integral management of the project, from the drafting of the technical reports to the legalization, including the management of tenders, and the direction of the works.
The companies that have participated in these replacements are the usual ones in this type of work for Decathlon Spain: Inelt, TH Mantenimiento, Mantotal, and Pairservi.
In addition, all the new equipment has been integrated into Decathlon’s air conditioning monitoring network, based on two platforms, one from the Catalan company Indoorclima and the other one from the French company Eficia.
In all cases, the equipment installed has been from the three main commercial rooftop manufacturers: CIAT, Keyter, and Lennox.
With these changes, Decathlon manages to considerably reduce its carbon footprint, in addition to starting to work with much more environmentally friendly refrigerant gases in compliance with the various European directives and Spanish standards that require a transition to natural elements, and with a lower polluting capacity in case of leakage.
With this long-term air-conditioning equipment renovation project, GMD Solutions is consolidating its position as one of the benchmark engineering firms for the French brand in Spain. In addition to this project, we have worked on the numerous openings of large stores, such as Decathlon Dos Hermanas, stores in city centers, such as Decathlon City Gijón, or comprehensive reforms and extensions such as the one carried out in Decathlon Santiago de Compostela.
