On November 21, 2022, Decathlon opened its store in the renewed City format on Alcalá Street in Madrid, relocating the previous store, which was situated about 90 meters away on the same street. In its new location at number 338 on this significant Madrid thoroughfare, the store boasts a constructed area of nearly 600m2. The concept of Decathlon’s City stores is developed in Spain’s most prominent urban centers, aiming to bring their products closer to customers. The new image has been implemented inside and outside this store’s premises.
As in the past, GMD Solutions carried out the different civil works and installation projects of this renovation for the French brand. The premises were renovated in just ten weeks, including the demolition phase, to leave the premises unfinished. Instalaciones Industriales Somains (electricity and civil works), Grupo Normex de PCI, TH Mantenimiento (air conditioning), Grupo Agüero (intrusion and CCTV), and ProjectSign (signage) are the companies that carried out this work under the supervision of GMD.
The project presented the challenge of operating within a city center amid supply shortages, unreliability, and a complex commercial environment. In addition, it is worth highlighting the renovation of the facade, which has been integral in the case of the City of Alcalá Street, where the installation of a paneled facade with a renewed image for the French brand makes the work done very relevant.
The premises’ fire prevention, electrical, and air renewal systems have all been entirely renewed. The climate control aspect has been reinforced and restructured to enhance efficiency and align with current market standards and regulations. Aesthetically, the new image for the “City” format has been implemented at Decathlon City on Alcalá Street, showcasing a more modern and innovative appearance that enhances the attractiveness of the various products to customers.
With extensive experience in retail projects, GMD Solutions is a prominent engineering partner for Decathlon in Spain. It has been nine years since GMD Solutions started collaborating with the French multinational, beginning with the opening of Decathlon Ciudad Real. Over this time, GMD has been involved in more than 30 stores and various maintenance and logistics campaigns, including locations like Ávila, Santiago de Compostela, and Villanueva de la Serena.
