On September 9th, Decathlon unveiled the expansion of its central offices at the Alegra retail park, with the participation of its CEO and numerous employees from various departments within the company. Thanks to the trust the French brand has placed in our company for several years, GMD Solutions drafted all the projects and acted as the overseeing authority for this construction project of over 2,000m2.
The new offices are within a portion of the current San Sebastián de los Reyes store. This reduction in the store’s surface area corresponds to a strategic shift driven by the evolution of customer needs and the increasing prominence of online sales. The decision to provide Decathlon’s offices with a new space connected to the existing offices (located three floors above the store) allows for the maintenance of proximity among office employees, a crucial criterion for optimizing the operation of various services, as the current and new offices are interconnected via a staircase.
The expansion divides into two open-space work zones. Each zone features restrooms and multiple meeting rooms. A break room, a multi-purpose space with retractable seating, and a multimedia room complement the facilities available to employees on this floor.
GMD Solutions was in charge of the site management and, thanks to the work of Civity Group for the civil works, low voltage and air conditioning, and Iberext for the fire protection, the work was completed in 4 months, including the demolition of the main façade and the construction of a partition wall to divide the store’s offices into sections. Three electrified channels were installed per area to allow flexible movement within the workspaces tailored to current needs. The design was executed to reduce energy consumption: all lighting is LED-based, a curtain wall spanning over 65 meters in length and 2.70 meters in height was put in place to enable ample natural lighting throughout a significant portion of the day, the climate control machines rank among the market’s most efficient, and ventilation is facilitated by two heat recovery units linked to CO2 sensors. The premises are safeguarded with smoke detectors in the structural and false ceilings, fire hose cabinets (BIEs), and fire extinguishers distributed at various points.
GMD Solutions has successfully executed over 50 projects for Decathlon Spain, encompassing new stores like the one in Dos Hermanas and renovated stores like Decathlon Getafe and a logistics warehouse.
