On December 15, 2017, the new Decathlon store in Villanueva de la Serena (Badajoz) was inaugurated, which was the 4th store in the Extremadura community and the 166th of the company in Spain.

The store is located in a recently created commercial building within the development of the “Ribera del Guadiana” Commercial Park. Next to this park, there are other operators such as AKI, Mercadona, as well as McDonald’s, and Burguer King. The store has a surface area of 1,500m2, of which more than 1,300m2 are dedicated to the sale of sporting goods.

GMD Solutions carried out all the engineering and construction management work for the adaptation of the warehouse to convert it into a Decathlon store. This project included the following: 

• Follow-up work of the property. This consisted of advising Decathlon and verifying compliance with our client’s requirements.
• Staff rooms: changing rooms, toilets and a meeting room.
• Fire protection installations: all the equipment required by regulations were included in order to have the store always prepared in case of fire (fire extinguishers, equipped fire hydrants, optical smoke detectors, and alarms) and thus ensure the safety of customers at all times.
• LED lighting: the salesroom and the other rooms of the store are illuminated with LED technology, which allows significant electricity savings (about 40,000kWh per year, i.e. the equivalent of 25 tons of CO2). The lighting mesh in the salesroom is Trilux brand and is designed to provide illumination in excess of 1,000lx.
• Anti-intrusion and CCTV installations ensure an optimal store location.
• All the projects were developed in collaboration with our partner in the field of architecture, Arellano Arquitectos; while the execution of the works was carried out by the construction company MELCOR, the electrical installer SOMAINS, the security installer CHUBB PARSI, and GRUPO NORMEX, the company specialized in fire protection installations.

This strengthens the professional relationship that our engineering company maintains with the French multinational. This store was the fifth in which GMD Solutions has participated in 2017 as reference engineering for Decathlon, a client for which we have developed projects in Orihuela, Miranda de Ebro, Berango, and Princesa (Madrid), and the refurbishment of the façade of Decathlon Getafe. We are currently working on new projects with the French multinational in different locations.
