GMD Solutions executed the Energy Efficiency Audit and Certificate of the Royal Hideaway Sancti Petri Hotel. We tell you all about this project here.
During the month of May 2017, GMD Solutions executed the Energy Efficiency Audit and Certification of the luxury hotel Royal Hide Away Sancti Petri, located in the town of Chiclana de la Frontera, part of the Barceló group.
The hotel has more than 30,000m2 of facilities and 35,000m2 of tropical gardens and swimming pools. It has 195 rooms, 3 restaurants, 5 outdoor pools, and one indoor pool, along with a SPA of more than 3,000m2 considered the largest in a hotel in Europe.
During the audit, the different facilities that serve the hotel were analyzed with special attention to air conditioning and lighting, which are pillars of Energy Efficiency.
Specifically, the hotel has a system of water chillers and air conditioners for the different lounges, as well as ceiling fan coils for the air conditioning of the different rooms. Heating is implemented through a system of gas boilers located on the roof, next to the chillers.
Over the last few years, the hotel has decided to modernize its facilities and make them more environmentally friendly by installing two high-power biomass boilers to generate domestic hot water for the SPA, and an aerothermal machine to heat one of the outdoor swimming pools. This project was carried out by GMD Solutions in collaboration with the installer OFITECA.
In addition, the traditional lighting technologies with which the hotel opened its doors back in 2008 were replaced by LED lighting, thus avoiding the emission of over 650 tons of CO2 per year.
Along with the detailed study of the facilities, GMD Solutions carried out the mandatory Energy Efficiency Certificate of the center and all the units that are part of the complex, reaching a total of more than 60,000m2 of surface area, now added to the certifications of 14 centers of the Department of Social Affairs of the Community of Madrid with more than 120,000m2, and the Energy Efficiency audit of 34 centers of the multinational Decathlon.
We have recently written a new article for the magazine Energética 21 with an Energy Efficiency Solutions Guide for the hotel sector, based on our experience, which we will soon share with all of you in our blog.
The Energy Efficiency Audit and Certificate are the basis for the strategic planning of this issue, which is becoming more and more relevant. The certification is already mandatory to sell or rent any property, according to the European provision. But, the audit can provide a plan to achieve a more efficient energy and business management, without incurring unnecessary expenses. It is an investment to analyze the current state of the building and gives you – in hand – the list of the best solutions in which you can invest to increase efficiency and profits, reduce costs, and manage environmental impact.
