During February and March 2019, Decathlon España store in the town of Ferrol, A Coruña, was downsized.
Since its opening in 2011, the store had a total usable area of approximately 5,000m². Due to the evolution of online orders and special circumstances of the store, the French multinational decided to reduce its sales area by enabling and separating an important part of the building for the use of another tenant.
GMD Solutions developed all the engineering work: projects, construction management, and technical support for the reduction of its commercial area as well as the autonomy of the facilities.
After the reform, the store has a total useful area of 3,056m², including the 2,914m² of the salesroom. The rest of the area is made up of rooms for the staff (meeting room, changing rooms, boxes) and the technical rooms where we placed the pumping equipment for the fire protection system and the low-voltage electrical panels.
The work was carried out by Crealia Construcción, and MANTOTAL Facility Management, the facility’s maintenance company.
Among the changes made to the building, it is worth highlighting the replacement of the entire curtain wall of the main façade, as well as the change in customer access. The erection of the separation wall of the warehouse of more than 9 meters high, in addition to the repair and painting of the exterior parking. In the facilities area, it was also necessary to adapt all the lighting, fire detection, and extinguishing systems, as well as to reroute the electrical trays.
After the reduction, the Valencian food company MERCADONA was set up in the resulting establishment and opened its doors in December, giving rise to a commercial area with a significant influx of people.
This project joins the long list of establishments designed and managed by GMD Solutions for the sports retail multinational company, including the stores of Madrid Princesa, Jaen, Motril, Miranda de Ebro, and Cadiz.
Currently, GMD Solutions is immersed in two reform projects for the French company: Decathlon Salamanca and Decathlon Barakaldo.
