At the beginning of 2019, the photovoltaic installation for self-consumption at the Club de Ocio NUDOS was completed. The establishment, which already had biomass boilers for DHW and heating production, an absorption machine for cold production, and LED lighting; took the definitive leap towards minimum grid-dependent electricity consumption with the installation of 220 photovoltaic modules, for a total of 56kWp.

The technical project was directed and drawn up by GMD Solutions as part of its collaboration with POWEN, a company that specializes in self-consumption projects, with the help of the installer Grupo Jesús Bárcenas.

The complex, located in the town of Ciudad Real and already known for being one of the most efficient in the world, will now be able to boast of producing up to 70% of its annual consumption with 100% renewable energies: biomass and photovoltaic. In this way, the more than 2,500m2 distributed between gymnasium, offices, restaurant, bowling alley, games room, and events room are air-conditioned in the most efficient way possible. In addition, all of the center’s lighting is LED, including the 18 paddle tennis courts and 3 tennis courts, which, together with the recently inaugurated production of its own electricity, allows for minimum consumption and a reduced carbon footprint.

The photovoltaic installation is located on the roof and, in addition to the 220 modules, has two Huawei inverters that transform the direct current generated by the photovoltaic cells into alternating current, which is necessary for all the electrical equipment in the complex. In addition, thanks to the conditions of the new Royal Decree, it is 100% isolated from the grid with the installation of an anti-diversion switch, which prevents energy from being injected into the grid.

With this initiative, the establishment will save up to 80,000kWh of electricity per year, the equivalent of more than 31 tons of CO2, or in other words, the amount of Carbon Dioxide absorbed by 62 adult trees. The savings will be equivalent to 50% of the electrical energy consumed by the entire facility and the return of investment on this installation is estimated at six years.
